Carrier Corp. Provides Commercial Building Designers/Owners With a Blueprint to Earn LEED® Credits
SYRACUSE, N.Y., July 22, 2011 - With growing demand for increased energy efficiency in buildings, Carrier Corp. published a new guide for commercial building designers and owners to earn credits toward the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) green building certification program.

The 2011 edition of its technical paper, Carrier Products and LEED Certification, serves as a blueprint to how high-performance heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems can help building owners earn credits for LEED 2009 for New Construction and Major Renovations(TM) (LEED for New Construction) and LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance(TM) (leed for existing buildings:O&M) in North America.

Carrier is the world's leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions and a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (UTX).

Launched at its Green Done Easy customer event this week in Charlotte, N.C., the 52-page guide provides an overview of the various LEED credits related to HVAC, and then details how assembling the right HVAC system can help achieve those credits as HVAC systems can impact 40 percent of the available LEED points through two of the six rating point categories - Energy & Atmosphere (EA) and Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ).

"At Carrier, we recognize the responsible balance between the technology we provide today and the world we live in tomorrow," said Bob McDonough, president, Residential and Commercial Systems, Carrier Corp. "We provide commercial building designers and owners with tools to support their green building designs. Our 2011 LEED guide for HVAC design advances our overall effort to lead the industry in environmental stewardship."

Carrier is a pioneer in sustainability and offers a number of tools to help its customers worldwide be environmentally responsible. In addition to being a founding member of the U.S. Green Building Council®, Carrier also is a founding member of the Argentina, China, India, Singapore and France Green Building Councils. The company is a U.S. Green Building Council Education Provider and is working across the globe to facilitate courses and workshops that support LEED-Professional Credentials(TM), which are offered through the Carrier University Institute for Sustainability. Carrier is also the first company to license USGBC's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) curriculum to train its employees and customers in sustainable building solutions.

"Green products start at a green company that shares its expertise. Our comprehensive LEED HVAC guide will help building professionals transform the marketplace to a more sustainable future," McDonough said.

Through the Carrier University Institute for Sustainability, the company focuses on providing ongoing professional development, technical training and application tools to the industry. Additionally, Carrier customer events, such as Green Done Easy, provide commercial customers with training on key topics and challenges in the industry today. The recent event featured designing the ideal HVAC system from a customer's perspective, a factory product test and tour, introduction of the Carrier Products and LEED Certification paper and more.

"Our customers know sustainability is not just limited to the products and services we deliver, but encompasses everything we do," said John Mandyck, Carrier's chief sustainability officer. "Building on 109 years of pioneering innovation, we will never rest on our accomplishments, instead we will continue to look for ways to improve our products, our environment and our world."
