Carrier Achieves Record Chiller Efficiency with Evergreen® 23XRV with Foxfire® Compression Technology - PR Newswire
Breaks the 0.300 kW/Ton Mark

SYRACUSE, N.Y., April 9, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Carrier's Evergreen® 23XRV has surpassed industry standards for energy efficiency, now offering Integrated Part Load Values (IPLV) as low as 0.299 kW/Ton, which exceeds the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) 90.1 efficiency standards by up to 44 percent. The award-winning water-cooled, variable-speed screw chiller uses non-ozone depleting HFC-134a refrigerant and Foxfire® compression technology, making it one of the most efficient, reliable and durable chillers in the industry. Carrier, the world's leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.

"Innovation is part of our genetic code," said Geraud Darnis, president & CEO, UTC Climate, Controls & Security. "Carrier invented modern air conditioning 110 years ago, and we're reinventing it again with record-breaking energy efficiency for buildings."

In addition to breaking this efficiency barrier, the Evergreen 23XRV features robust and flexible operation with a wide operating envelope and surge-free compression.

"Surpassing the 0.300 kW/Ton IPLV mark is an amazing achievement in our industry, similar to running a four-minute mile in track or the breaking the sound barrier in aviation -- milestones that were long thought to be unachievable," stated Greg Alcorn, vice president, commercial sales and marketing, Carrier. "At Carrier, we are continually expanding the capabilities of our Evergreen chillers to deliver superior efficiency and sustainability while meeting - or exceeding - our customers' needs."

Evergreen 23XRV water-cooled chillers are the world's first integrated variable speed, water cooled, screw chiller, and incorporates significant breakthroughs in water-cooled chiller technology to provide excellent reliability and achieve superior efficiencies at true operating conditions without compromising the environment. Quality design and construction make the Evergreen 23XRV chillers the best choice for modern, efficient chilled water plants, and are also the first full series of seismic-compliant chillers.

"This breakthrough in chiller energy efficiency comes from the same factory that is LEED® certified, reinforcing our belief that green products start at a green company," said John Mandyck, chief sustainability officer, UTC Climate, Controls & Security.
