It may sound silly to think about your air conditioner freezing in the middle of August, right? But thats exactly the problem for many homeowners here in San Antonio. In fact, its one of the most common AC problems we get calls and questions about.
So what exactly happens when your AC freezes up? The first thing youll notice is your system isnt cooling anymore. The problem is with your systems evaporator coil. The most common reason? If your air filter is super dirty, it blocks the air flow.
That restriction of air causes condensation to freeze on the coil. Another reason we see AC freeze-ups is because of leaks somewhere in your system. If its leaking Freon, the system goes into overdrive to get the temperature down to your desired setting. A leak is a major problem its not something that should be solved with a quick fix (i.e. topping off your system with Freon). If you have a leak, its going to continue to come back.
So make sure you regularly change your air filter(s). Not only does it keep the air inside your home cleaner and healthier to breathe, it helps prevent costly problems with your AC system!
