HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- Huntsville Fire and Rescue responded to a moderate-size fire today at Science and Engineering Services Inc. (SES) on northwest Pulaski Pike after a nonfunctional air conditioning unit caught fire.
The building's landlord had workers removing the air conditioning unit's chillers when sparks from the cutting tools sparked a fire around 4 p.m., said Ralph Pallotta, COO of SES, a parts manufacturer for aircraft and vehicles. He says old materials, such as the insulation, ignited during the removal process.
Although SES employees were evacuated, the fire did not affect the plant, Pallotta said.
No one was injured.
SES own response team combated the fire before being joined by Huntsville firefighters.
