MASHPEE, MA, USA - The extreme heat settled over Cape Cod has boosted sales of air conditioners and fans and also increased the reminders that those working outdoors need to take extra care.
The Falmouth and Mashpee Fire rescue Departments were called to Commercial Street in Mashpee Friday morning where a workman suffered heat stroke while working on a roof of a new building addition.
It took rescue workers about an hour to stabilize the mans condition and lower him from the roof by using a ladder trucks bucket.
The man was taken to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis for treatment of heat stroke.
According to the national Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, signs of heat related illness include muscle cramps, heavy sweating, cold skin and a cold and clammy feeling.
Heat stroke is described as a serious medical conditions and symptoms include a body temperature of 106 degrees or higher, hot, dry skin and a rapid and strong pulse.
