Cleveland Clinic: Air conditioning can cut pollen county by 90 percent.
Most people welcomed the warmer weather earlier this year, but they are not thrilled about the early allergy season it triggered.
Local 4's medical expert Dr. McGeorge has reported that tree pollens and molds are high right now.
Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic said we could soon deal with another type of allergy.
"Tree pollens is March and April and then late-April and certainly into May, the grass season begins. So, if you're allergic to tree and grass pollen, it's a double hit," said Dr. David Lang of the Cleveland Clinic.
Many allergies can be treated with a number of over-the-counter antihistamines, but Dr. Lang said air conditioning can really help.
"Air conditioning is a major measure that can be effective. With the air conditioner on and the windows closed, you cut down the indoor pollen count by 90 percent or more. So, air conditioning in buildings and in cars is key for reducing level of symptoms, medication reliance," said Lang.
Dr. Lang said if someone can't get relief, they should consider consulting with an allergist, who may recommend allergy shots.
